Evaluation Of Magazine:

In my Preliminary Task, I designed a Music Magazine centered around the alternative rock band Bayaan from Lahore, Pakistan.
To begin with the colours of the magazine, initially, I considered a tan color scheme using shades of orange, brown, and yellow. However, since I planned to make this magazine look as realistic as I could with the skills I had at the time as a beginner in graphic designing, I realised that this colour scheme might make the magazine appear dull to my target audience. Hence forth, while the tan colour scheme still serves as the base colour on the front and back cover page as well as pages 2 and 3, I opted for a brighter color palette to convey a sense of entertainment on pages 4, 5, 6, and 7.
The choice of fonts plays a crucial role in shaping the visual identity and impact of a magazine cover. DreamsCar is used for the mast head of the magazine to set the tone of the magazine and make the design look impactful. In addition to this, Century Gothic Bold is used for the supporting cover lines on the page to make them more readable and professional.
Rather than overwhelming readers with lengthy articles, I aimed for a recreational experience by incorporating diverse colors, shapes, and engaging visuals.
Pages 1 and 2 serve as the introduction to Bayaan. To add variety, I placed the heading vertically on the left side of the page, deviating from the typical horizontal placement on the top corners of the page. This unique arrangement sparks curiosity and invites readers to delve into the article. A consistent framework was maintained for pages 4 and 5, utilizing paragraph text boxes for a realistic touch while infusing a bright color base. In contrast, pages 6 and 7 showcase an entirely different layout, positioning them as the magazine’s highlight. The use of navy blue and purple, along with concert pictures, adds meaning and ties the pages of the magazine together with it. Finally, the back cover adopts a simpler approach, featuring guitars that symbolize the genre of music discussed in the magazine articles and provide context for the magazine.
To sum up, the magazine is focused more to bring reform in the way consumer magazines can be designed by making use of bright colours, unconventional font styles and different layouts for each page to entice the audience and wallow them in to the magazine.

Learning Outcome:

Starting this magazine, I was a beginner at softwares like Adobe Photoshop, so naturally, it took me more time to complete graphic designing as it would have if I already knew how to use the software before hand.
In the entire process, I have come to master layouts; I acquired the skill to create engaging page compositions that enhance readability while also maintaining visual aesthetics. Initially, I had a hard time achieving spacious and polished magazine layouts, but this continued practice has improved my abilities. I can now confidently design different layouts, using varied elements for depth and impact in a shorter period of time as compared to when I started. Moreover, typography has been my main focal point during this initial phase. From the start to finish, I have experimented with various font styles and sizes to create an aesthetically pleasing reader journey. I extended to exploring headings and article text across magazine pages. Prior to this, I have had some experience drafting social media stories and small scale posters, but through the skills I've attained by designing everything in this magazine from start to finish and the professional tools I have now, I can challenge myself to work on a grander scale. Lastly, as for compositions, I’ve discovered that compositions wield significant influence over the success or failure of a magazine layout. From browsing the internet for design inspiration to using my own creativity, this educational journey has taught me to approach page layouts with care, ensuring simplicity and universal understanding so that it reaches a larger audience.
